Inspired by Memories.

Sweet dreams are made of these.

A day with the grandparents. A stroll down main street to the local soda shop. Candy. Ice cream. All the sugar.

Janie Rush-Williams remembers those days all too well, and she brought the spirit of those memories with her to Sugar Rush Sweet Treats at 709 N. Broadway.

“I started with a dream, a passion and a love of sweets,” she said. “I would visit my grandparents, and they would take me to the local soda shop and candy store. Sugar Rush is a homage to them.”

“I started with a dream, a passion and a love of sweets.”

Sugar Rush is a family-owned business that sells premium ice cream and vintage candy such as lollipops, salt water taffy and cotton candy. It’s located inside a historic downtown building, but the interior is as bright and vibrant as you’d expect from a sweet shop.

Along with selling premium sweets, the shop also hosts birthday parties, showers, Cotton Candy spinning events, candy buffets and offers catering.

Rush-Williams said every thriving community such as Pittsburg needs a local ice cream shop.

“Pittsburg is a small town with a big city vibe,” she said. “Something fun is always happening in Pitt. The city welcomes growth but has a small, business-friendly mentality.”

The booming downtown scene in Pittsburg is a sign, she said, of a healthy local economy.

“Pittsburg has a growing economy, but it is still affordable to live here and run a business,” Rush-Williams said. “It is community-minded and just an all-around fun place to be a part of.”
